A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING WAYNE ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL JAGUARS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1998 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE OVERALL CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Wayne Academy High School Jaguars Football Team finished the 1998 season with an outstanding record of 13 wins and no losses; and

WHEREAS, the Jaguars defeated several teams in the state playoffs, winning the District 3A Championship, the North A State Championship and the Overall Class 1A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Jaguars shutout three teams this season, scoring a total of 471 points during the season while limiting their opponents to a total of only 140 points; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play this season, including: Corey Bishop, Clay Cochran, Eric Cooksey, Andrew Hutto, Anthony Hutto, Brooks James, Matt Jones, Nick Pitts, David Shaw, Brett Smith, Brock Stanley, Brandon Tate, Josh Tate, Jay Tynes and John Walker; and

WHEREAS, the Wayne Academy High School Jaguars have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Gary Gore and Assistant Coaches Tony Bishop, Billy Caston and John Walker, who have broadened the Jaguars' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Gore has brought additional honor to Wayne Academy High School for being named the District 3A Coach of the Year and the Clarion-Ledger Coach of the Week; and

WHEREAS, the Jaguars have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Wayne Academy High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Wayne Academy High School Jaguars Football Team and their coaches, Head Coach Gary Gore and Assistant Coaches Tony Bishop, Billy Caston and John Walker, for their phenomenal 1998 season, for winning the Overall Class 1A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IF FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Wayne Academy High School, Head Coach Gary Gore and Assistant Coaches Tony Bishop, Billy Caston and John Walker.
